A market town called Holt

Fewer words and more pictures for Holt. A picturesque place north west of Norwich (about 30 miles) with loads of little shops, galleries, pubs, churches, homes and one very eclectic department store that is something of a rabbit warren complex but with a fantastic range of goods - food hall, restaurant, supermarket, clothing and homewares. We have visited several times already and likely to several more times I suspect. Keen to try the tea room out one time we visit - it is housed within the mustard walls you see in the picture below left.

Lovely little flower boxes around the streets and shop fronts.

A sample of churches

And, of course, a sample of shops, including the "grandmas-in-waiting" shopping for baby things (to be fair, browsing ... can't choose things yet because the colour cannot be settled on!) - thank god for the camera and interesting things to check out.

And finally, Byfords, who describe themselves as a 'higgeldy-piggeldy" cafe. Great food and atmosphere and cosy on a cold day. Can buy much of their fare to take away frozen & fresh - you watch the pasties and apple turnovers being made. We are heading back there for dinner and the monthly jazz evening this Wednesday. Yet to taste that squirrel though.

Is Holt "really" special? Nope. It is typical of villages and market towns that abound in Norfolk though - at least the ones we have been driving through so far. Far too many to stop in every one, so Holt has just been one we did pause to explore ... could have been any number of others!
