The Plantation Garden

First we had arranged to have some lunch in the Garden Cafe at the Catholic Cathedral. Lovely tranquil setting amidst the hustle and bussle of the city edge ... perhaps not surprisingly, the cathedral sits on Unthank Road :). Lunch was very good ... here are a few shots of the garden setting and a glimpse inside after we were satiated.

Then we headed next door to the Plantation Garden. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Naturally they never quite do justice but I'm sure you can see it was very easy to take time out to enjoy the environment and landscape it offered. You would never know you were so close to the city ... and it was so, so easy to relax (especially on such a beautiful afternoon). You will also see I took the liberty of experimenting some with the camera ... very difficult to resist given what was provided to work with!

Enjoy. We, certainly did.

The first three represent the first impression when you "enter" this piece of paradise; down, into the distance over the formal lawn and tulip beds and to the left for the fountain ... SO MUCH to take in to figure out "which way do I head first?" Up along the left a variety of paths meander across the hillside to end atop the carved wall you see below as an alternative to the gravel paths and graded steps to the top of the wall.

Then some close ups of some of the details and the tulip beds, fountain and carved walled staircase ... superlative at least ...

Then a view from the top of that carved walled staircase over the garden and lawn back towards the entrance and an alternative perspective of one of the tulip beds from ground level showing off a different angle with the light and so different hues of colour ... just cements my newfound liking for tulips!

Now some of the experimentation I wrote of earlier ... I had fun anyway :) ...

And finally, because you see the back of Maggie above and minutely in some of the earlier ones, here are a couple just so you can see she continues to develop well ... its all the vitamin D she is getting with her outings!

And, as you can see, Daisy is going OK too ... a little neglected but still with a healthy sheen :)
